Frequently asked Questions

Cold Pressed Oils -Made in Vernon BC

  • What is cold pressed oil?
Cold Pressed is synonymous with quality made oils produced without using extreme heat or chemical solvents. We seek to source seeds and nuts with no more than 10% humidity as water prevents optimum results. Cold Pressed oils retain their flavour and nutritional value making these oils a great choice for either cooking, finishing or health.
  • How do you recommend you store your oil?
R&M Essential’s oils should be stored in a cool, dark place - ideally below 20°C. They are bottled in a dark glass bottle to prevent UV rays and light which would degrade the product. Flax Seed Oils should always be kept in the refrigerator or freezer to maintain freshness.
  • How should I use your oils?
Each of the oils are suited for different applications. For example, we wouldn’t recommend you cook with flax seed oil, but would recommend using coconut or peanut. Flax seed would be more nutritious than sunflower. Check out our recipe page for suggestions.
  • Do oils go bad?
Oil is perishable and over time they will go rancid. However, when properly handled, sealed and stored in a cool dark place, cold pressed oil will be 'good' for two years from the date of pressing. Flaxseed Oil is the exception to this rule. Flaxseed oil older than four weeks should be discarded and a fresh bottle should be sourced.
  • What is the recommended serving of flaxseed oil?
Nutritionists and health care providers will commonly recommend a daily amount of one tablespoon of oil for every 100 lbs of body weight.
  • Are you making any organic oils?
R&M Essentials is committed to sourcing organic seeds and nuts for its production. We are in the process of securing our Organic Certification and once secured, we will be remarketing our products as ‘Certified Organic’ As a certified producer - all our ingredients will have to be organic and potentially detrimental to local sources.
  • Did you press the European Roasted Pumpkin Oil?
R&M Essentials sourced the oil from our partner in Bavaria, Germany. We bottled the product in Vernon, but we did not press it. R&M currently does not have the technology to roast the pumpkin seeds which gives the product its rich and nutty flavour. All other products are made 100% by R&M Essentials
